Actually Phil, the problem is that Unix userids are case sensitive.
Thus <PHIL>, <Phil>, and <phil> ARE all different. It is common practice
to assign only lower case userids, to prevent confusion, but it is NOT a
requirement, and therefore some (many?) system managers ignore it.
