Sure, since the beginning of mailing list management "time."

Those instructions are always sent to new subscribers and they are requested to save them.

Most LISTSERV sites support the following 

mailto:listname-UNSUBSCRIBE-REQUEST@listhost

(no SUBJECT: nor Body of Text required)

e.g., to unsub from THIS LIST

mailto:[log in to unmask]

Of course nothing will work if sent From: a non-subscriber address -- list-owner, postmaster involvement would be needed.
