Well, Jim's model is the "old model", aka "kludge". It works and is
best for versions 1.8e and below. If you go with it on 14.3 and above,
you lose the ability to place a subscriber on review.
For modern versions of Listserv (v14.3 and above), you may find the
"nonmember" configuration keyword interesting and useful. For example,
send= public,confirm,non-member
default-options= Review
editor= email@domain
This causes non-member posts to be first confirmed by the sender and
then moderated. In fact, members are moderated until their
subscriptions are (manually) set to "noreview". I cannot say why LSoft
decided to not support the model of a private list with others able to
post via confirmation and moderation; I would have liked that option.
(This topic perhaps better belongs on the LSTOWN-L rather than LSTSRV-L
list).
