You don't need to update to the new version on the old server.

Recently we went from Windows Server 2003/Listserv15.5 to Windows Server 2012 R2/Listserv 16.0. The process is fairly simple. The key is to make sure that you have the same drives on your new server as you do on the old. The reason for that is the "Notebook" setting on all your lists will need to match up when you move those files over to the new server, otherwise they will not function until you manually go in and update the Notebook setting for each list.

You'll need to grab all the files related to your lists in the "MAIN" folder as well as the "LISTS" folder to get them to function properly, but all it really takes is dropping those files in the same location (And drive letter don't forget) as they were on your old server.

Let me know if you want more details. Happy to help if needed.

Subject: Moving Listserv to a new server

We are running Listserv 1.8e on a Windows 2003 server (32bit). We want to move it to a Windows 2008 server (64bit). The document "Moving Listserv to a new server" suggests updating to the latest version on the old server before migrating. This would have to be the 32bit version.

1. Is it really necessary to update the old server with the latest version? Can we migrate without updating the old server?

2. Would the latest 32bit version run on a 64bit machine with no problem, and without any special implementation?

I really want to keep this process as "simple" as possible.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks,

...Wes
