I think that is the answer too.  List definitions might be:

* REVIEW= OWNER
* DEFAULT-OPTIONS= NOPOST
* SEND= PRIVATE

and the OWNER= is NOT the instructor.

LISRTSERV(R) maintainer at the site issues (as required)

ADD listname instructor@host firstname lastname
SET listname POST FOR instructor@host

BTW, does the instructor not know who is in their class by name????
