Creating lists sends message to other servers. Why?

Why is it, that whenever I create an INTERNAL list within our company,
a message gets sent to the following addresses.  Why?

To:<[log in to unmask]>
To:<[log in to unmask]>
To:<[log in to unmask]>

....
....


Can I shut this off?  These servers need not know about the
internal mailing lists within our company.  And, it puts
extra unnecessary burden on our servers.
