OK.. I'll bite.  What problem are you trying to solve here?  Note that
if they're subscribers, they've *seen* the postings already (unless they're
a new subscriber and they're looking for an old posting).  Many people
keep their own archives of lists, or at least postings they found
useful/worth keeping.  My lstsrv-l archive has soe 1,115 postings
I've kept for one reason or another.  And there's *no* way to prevent
those "certain subscribers" from just asking somebody *else* on the
list from searching as well, or just a "Did you keep the note about XYZ?"
query.

If it's in your archive, a determined user can find it.

If it was posted to the list, you have to assume that a subscriber
can get a copy.

Applying technological solutions to social problems rarely works.

Now, could you explain the problem you're trying to solve by
restricting searching the archives, in more detail?
