In version 1.8a LISTSERV will replace the first character of a line of 72
or more equal signs with a blank in the archive files *only*. The
messages sent to list recipients, either directly or via digests, will be
unaltered. Since index recipients order from the archives, their copy
will have the escaped equal sign. It may be a bit annoying but that was
the only solution that could be implemented in the short term. Again I
can't use the same techniques as Ricemail since many owners routinely
edit their archive files and I can't expect them to update line counts
when they change the messages :-)
